Louise and Carol

Louise lived for many years in Hensol hospital. Carol became involved when she was moving back into the community. Louise says that in hospital she didn't have her own space, yet she was scared of how she would cope outside, and of leaving her friends there. Carol has helped Louise to go back and visit them, as well as being a good friend herself. Carol speaks up for Louise when needed, making sure that the right people know what she wants. This has improved Louise's confidence outside hospital - she now has a full-time job, and enjoys the freedom to do many other things.

Kevin and Sian

Kevin is a middle-aged man with learning difficulties. When Sian first met him, he felt isolated. Some of the workers in the house where he lived - who were supposed to give him support - treated him like a child. They made him do extra housework, and he was often unhappy. When Sian became involved, she was able to draw attention to what was going on. Because of this, other people in the house gained the confidence to speak out too. Now Kevin and Sian are firm friends and things are much better in his home.
